Flames tore through the roof of a vacant South Side building early Sunday morning.

The fire started around 5 a.m., with smoke visible from the freeway. The good news -- so far, there are no reports of injuries.

A brush fire Monday in Calimesa burned about 89 acres, disrupted freeway traffic and left one firefighter with a minor injury.

Update: At least one person was found dead in the fire. Fire crews were sent to Newport overnight for a house fire that spread to neighboring homes. The call came in at 3:30 a.m. for a fire with entrapment in the 100 block of North Front Street in Newport.
