A wildfire in the Florida Everglades has burned thousands of acres west of Broward County, prompting concerns about smoke, wildlife and the fire's potential spread.

LA County is set to receive an additional $200 million from Gov. Gavin Newsom’s $2.5 billion wildfire relief fund, following NBC4 Investigates’ reporting that only a fraction of the money promised for recovery from the Palisades and Eaton fires had been released by the state as the fund’s sunset approached.

Ten appliances have been deployed to the 166-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The fire, estimated at .3 acres, is burning south of Boulder County Road 95J, which lies just north of Switzerland Trail, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Fueled by severe drought and heat, at least two dozen active wildfires are burning across Florida, including a 4,755-acre blaze at the edge of the Everglades near Coral Springs.

Firework season is once again underway in Oregon, as the state’s annual 14-day legal purchasing window opened Tuesday. But fire officials are urging residents to leave fireworks to the experts, citing ongoing safety concerns amid a searing drought.
